up new words and phrases? These made-up words and new combinations of
words keep cropping up in articles, in products and especially in new

ankle biter - really small dogs
assisted migration - moving or leading wild animals to another location
or teaching birds migratory routes using ultralight planes
barf - controversial natural canine diet: bones and raw food
barkitecture - over-the-top dog houses
carpet snakes - pet ferrets
cat typing, cat typist - cat walking across your keyboard
cat's house - house modified with ramps, catwalks, stairs, posts and
more made specifically to amuse felines
crittercam - cameras attached by scientists (usually) to wild
animals. Alternatively, a camera that takes photos or videos of doggy
daycare or pets sleeping at home.
critter label - wine labels featuring kangaroos and other cute
animals
dog beach - rare beach where dogs can legally be off-leash
dog park - public area where dogs can legally be off-leash
dog cone - miniature ice cream cone available for free at some Dairy
Queens and other establishments
dog water - water dish outside of Starbucks and other eateries for
visiting pooches
Doggles - commercial product, goggles for dogs who ride bikes and
cars
doggy daycare - business that watches over lots of pooches while the
parents are away
furkids - dogs, cats and other furry pets
Furrminator - commercial product, brush designed for molting season
for longhaired dogs
furpeople - the more generic version of furkids as it includes more
senior pets
fursters - see furpeople
jackalope - jack rabbit with antlers (this one is ancient but funny
anyway)
kitty zooms - hyperactive kitten running, for no apparent reason,
through the house
pet guardian - see pet parent
pet parent - very involved owners of pets
pocket pets - small pets such as hamsters and very small dogs
pocket pups - the tiniest of the tiny dogs
poocher - dog
puppy gate - canine version of the baby gate to keep puppies in or
out of rooms
puppy kindergarten - puppy's first class with lots of adorable
puppies
puppy leave - corporate benefit for really lucky people
pup tarts - very small dogs often found in designer gear
purse pups - a more generic version of pup tarts as they may be
without gear
unbreed - mixed breed dog aka random bred or mutt
xxxx whisperer - horse whisperer, dog whisperer, fish whisperer, etc.
