Walking Your Cat, Tote in Tow
With a WalkingJacket, leash, tote bag and
cat you're ready to go strolling
If you're out walking your cat in a crowded location or where there may
be barking dogs, children or other distractions and potential problems,
consider taking along a canvas book tote. This is a
lightweight bag with handles long enough to go over your shoulder.
A canvas book
tote is much lighter and less bulky than an actual cat carrier that is used
for travel.
The tote should be sturdy and reinforced at the bottom so that it remains
upright on its own. It can be an open topped bag or, even better, one with a
clasp or zipper. It needs to be big enough for your cat to lie down or
sit inside comfortably.
If the
outing becomes overwhelming for your cat, simply place him inside the tote.
It can calm him and hide him from, for example, an overly inquisitive dog.
Before going out, place the tote, on its side, on the floor. Let your
cat play in it and become used to being inside. Practice placing him
inside wearing the WalkingJacket and leash and carrying him on your
shoulder. That puts him far enough off the ground so that he feels
more secure.
